Maybe you’ve heard the saying, “If Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.”
As responsible adults, we all have obligations to someone or something--be it our parents, spouses, children, siblings or jobs. But don’t we have an obligation to ourselves?
Of course, you want to give the people in your life the attention they deserve. A big part of doing so is giving a damn and giving a damn means compromising. But, there comes a time in every woman’s life when she should be allowed to NOT give a damn—even if it’s only for a few hours.
In other words, you deserve to be attentive to your own needs, particularly when being responsible for the needs of others. If you don’t have what you need, how can you be useful to anyone else?
You deserve to secure your inner peace, clarity, or happiness. You deserve to stop putting off things you’ve been wanting to do without feeling guilty for even thinking about it.
Have you wanted to do a boudoir shoot? Do it. Have you wanted to take a family portrait or update your social media presence with professional photos? Do it. When we decide to act, it all somehow comes together and the excitement we feel is undeniable.
So, when do we realize that we’ve mastered the art of NOT giving a damn? When we can nod our heads to a few, if not all, of the affirmations below:
-I don’t give a damn that I drove 2 hours for a photo session. It’s going to be freaking awesome!
-I don’t give a damn if the pounds I wanted to get rid of still linger around the middle. My photographer knows how to pose me so they disappear.
-I don’t give a damn if someone doesn’t like my makeup, my hair or my smile. My new head shots are going to make me marketable, personable and approachable. Did you say new job offer?
-I don’t give a damn if I can’t strike a boudoir pose like a model on Pinterest the first time around. It’s the photographer’s job to help me achieve the perfect pose.
-I don’t give a damn if my family squawks about getting a portrait done together. These are my memories, deal with it!
-I don’t give a damn if the bodysuit I wanted to pose in, only comes in pink. Hell, I will rock that pink!
-I don’t give a damn if my girlfriends give me a sideways look about how much I spent on my photo shoot. (Didn’t say a thing when they bought Louboutins.) Save up and you too, can be fabulous. Besides, I’m worth it!
Mastering the art of NOT giving a damn can be liberating. Go for it.
